Applications

Ecofloor heating mats are suitable for use under ceramic, stone or marble tiles, in internal applications such as kitchens, bathrooms and conservatories. Mats can be installed on top of suspended timber floors or solid concrete floors. As the cable measures only 3.5mm in diameter there will be minimal effect on finished floor levels.

The mats are available in either the standard 160watts/m2 or a 200watts/m2 version suitable for areas of high heat loss such as conservatories.

Mat Construction

Ecofloor heating mats consist of a twin core heating cable attached to a mesh scrim. The mats have an adhesive underside for simple fixing to most surfaces. The main advantage of this mat system is in the ease of installation, as the cable is attached to the mat the correct cable spacing is already taken care of, therefore the mat simply requires rolling out then sticking to the floor with the adhesive backing.

As the cable is of twin core construction it requires connection at only one end, and is fitted with a 3 metre cold tail for electrical connection. The cable has two layers of extremely tough and durable insulation which provide protection during installation and ensures a prolonged cable life. As the cable is earthed it is also suitable for installation in bathrooms and kitchens.

Measuring up

The floor area must be measured, avoiding all permanent fixtures where the mat will not be layed, such as baths, showers, kitchen and bedroom units.

Once the usable floor area has been calculated, deduct 5% for perimeter clearance to reach the actual available heated floor area.

Once you have established your available heated floor area you need to choose the correct mat. To do this pick the mat nearest but smaller than your measured area.

Example : If a kitchen floor area measured 20m2, deduct 5% for perimeter clearance, the actual usable heated floor area is 19m2. Looking at the available sizes on the products page, the mat to use is the 18.55m2, as this is the mat nearest to but smaller than 19m2.

Installation

It is advisable to install the cable on an insulated tile backer board such as Ecomax (available from our Insulation page) to minimse heat loss and ensure quicker heat up times.

1. Create a groove in the insulated tile backer board (or the sub floor if not using backer board) to accomadate the tubing for the floor probe.
2. Plan out where the mat will be layed. Roll the mat out over the floor area, when it reaches an obstacle it is cut and returned back the other way as in the drawing below. The mat can be cut but do not cut the orange cable. Allow a 5cm gap between the cable and the room perimeter.

3. Once layed and in its final position, use the adhesive backing on the mat to stick it to the floor.
4. Insert the floor probe into the tubing. A fully qualified electrician must now make the final electrical connections and fit the thermostat.

All mats are supplied with a comprehensive installation manual. Although installation is relatively easy the final electrical connection should be carried out by a competent electrician.
